Why correct dimensions matter on Instagram
Instagram enforces specific pixel dimensions for each post format. Uploading the wrong size causes automatic cropping that cuts off faces, text, or key parts of your image.
Instagram image dimensions reference
Post (Square): 1080 × 1080 px — Portrait Post: 1080 × 1350 px — Landscape Post: 1080 × 566 px — Story / Reel: 1080 × 1920 px — Profile Photo: 320 × 320 px. These are the current recommended sizes. Platform requirements occasionally change, so check the official Instagram help centre if you notice unexpected cropping after uploading.
Aspect ratio lock
When the lock icon is enabled, changing the width automatically updates the height proportionally (and vice versa). For platform presets the lock is disabled automatically since the preset dimensions have their own fixed ratio. Re-enable the lock if you need to scale uniformly from your own starting size.
Output format
The download is saved as a PNG, which is lossless and accepted everywhere. If you need a smaller JPEG for faster upload, use the Convert PNG to JPEG tool after resizing.
